The Truth about Noah's Ark

The Ark

-  No less then 510 feet(155m) long, 85 feet (26m) wide, and 51 feet(15.5m) high(Gen. 6:15). A mid-sized cargo ship by today’s standards.

-  Pitched inside and out(Gen. 6:14).

-  Three decks(Gen 6:16).

-  100 to 120 years was given for construction.

The Animals

How did Noah get the animals on the Ark?

The animals came to Noah(Gen. 6:20, 7:9) either directed by God or via instinctual migration.

How could they all fit?

Only air-breathing, land-dwelling animals, were taken, likely juveniles not full sized adults. Everything else could survive outside of the Ark, on floating debris from uprooted forests
for example. Marine life can survive varying salinity levels, there would have been pockets of fresh & saline water. Near 7,000 individual animals where taken, accounting for their pens(Gen. 6:14) near half of the Arks space was free for other uses.

Was every species on the Ark?

The variety in species we see today did not exist in the days of Noah. Only the parent “kinds” of these species were required to be on board to repopulate the earth. For example, only two dogs were needed to give rise to all the dog species that exist today.

How did they spread all over the world?

Primarily by the post flood ice age land bridges. Many other spectacular methods of colonization have been discovered.

The Flood

Where did the water come from?

Not just 40 days of rain, the "fountains of the great deep(Gen. 7:11)" broke open, water broke through the earth's crust for 150 days(Gen. 7:24). Noah and his family where on the Ark for about one year.

Where did the water go?

Its still here, three-quarters of the earth’s surface is covered with water. If we even out the ocean basins and flatten out the mountains, there is enough water to cover the entire earth by about 1.7 miles(2.7 km). The continents, mountain ranges we see today are the result of catastrophic plate tectonics during the flood.

Evidence for a Global Flood

#1: Fossils of Sea Life High Above Sea Level

On every continent we find fossils of sea creatures in rock layers that today are high above sea level, even on top of Mt. Everest!

#2: Rapid Burial of Plants and Animals

Countless billions of plant and animal fossils are found in extensive “graveyards” where they had to be buried rapidly on a massive scale.

#3: Rapidly Deposited Sediment Layers Spread Across Vast Areas

On every continent are found layers of sedimentary rocks over vast areas with rapid or no erosion between strata. Many of these
can be traced all the way across continents, and even between continents. Even more dramatic are the fossil-bearing sediment layers that were deposited rapidly right across many or most of the continents at the same time.
