The Romans Road witnessing plan walks the person through each key salvation verse in the book of Romans, there are 6 verses total plus 2 optional verses. You will give a brief explanation of each verse then read the verse to them. While sometimes asking them a question.

You will tell them everything bellow that starts with "Say". Minus the word say. There are a few optional statements that you can decide to tell them or not.

It’s preferable you show them each verse from an open Bible, New Testament, or a Bible app on your phone. Instructions for marking your Bible are at the end of this article.

How to start the conversation

Avoid using special Christian terms like… “Have you been saved?” Instead talk about the weather, their job, school, or go strait to asking them this:

Say: “May I ask you a question?”

(They respond.)

Say: “If you were to die tonight… are you sure you would go to Heaven?”

(They respond.)

Any reply less than 100% certainty, is a sign you must present the Romans Road.

Say: “If it were possible to know for sure that you could go to Heaven–would you be interested?”

(They respond.)

Say: “I could show you how you can know from the Bible, would you do what the Bible says?”

(They respond.)

Optional verse. Say: 1 JOHN 5:13 - STATES WE CAN BE SURE WE WILL GO TO HEAVEN. “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” (1 John 5:13)

Warning: Never argue doctrine or opinion! There is only one thing you truly want to leave them with and that is the gospel.

Say: ROMANS 3:10 - POINTS OUT THAT I’M NOT RIGHTEOUS AND YOU’RE NOT EITHER.

“As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” (Romans 3:10)

Say: ROMANS 3:23 - SAYS WE ALL FALL SHORT OF GOD’S STANDARD!

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23)

Say: Everyone has sinned against God and broken His law. Telling lies, stealing even small things or using God’s name as a cuss word are sins we all have committed. Do you believe you have sinned against God?

(They respond.)

Optional illustration. Say: Think about it this way, if a judge let a murderer go free the judge would be guilty. God is perfect, holy and sinless. He must judge us for our sins.

Point out that you are a sinner first, then that they are also. Never put the sinner below you.

Say: Do you know what God did so we could be saved from our sins?

(They respond.)

Say: ROMANS 5:8 - HERE WE FIND CHRIST DIED ON THE CROSS, HE BECAME OUR SUBSTITUTE BY TAKING OUR PLACE!

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

Say: ROMANS 6:23 - “For the wages of sin is death…”

MOST OF US WORK FOR WAGES. BUT OUR WAGES FOR OUR SINS IS DEATH!

“…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

ETERNAL LIFE IS A GIFT FROM GOD, NOT SOMETHING WE CAN EARN. YOU CANNOT SAVE YOURSELF.

Optional verse. Say: JOHN 3:16 - GIVES US THE BIG PICTURE.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Say: ROMANS 10:9 - TELLS US HOW TO CALL ON THE LORD TO BE SAVED, NOTICE WE MUST BELIEVE FROM OUR HEART, IT HAS TO BE FOR REAL.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

Optional point. Say: Salvation is simple, but it’s truly believing your guilty before God and that Jesus died for you and rose again that many people won’t do. Instead people think they are a good person or that their religion and traditions will save them.

Say: ROMANS 10:13 - IS A PROMISE BY GOD THAT ANYONE, ANYWHERE CAN BE SAVED.

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

Say: Are you willing to be saved right now?

(They respond.)

If they are ready, lead them in a salvation prayer. Before you lead them in prayer explain that just repeating these words doesn’t save them, it must be a genuine faith from their heart.

Tell them this:

Say: I will lead you in prayer, but it’s not saying these words that saves you, it’s believing on Jesus Christ from your heart.

The prayer:

Say: Repeat after me. Dear God I admit I have sinned against you and deserve your judgment (They repeat). I don’t want to sin against you ever again (They repeat). I believe Jesus died for my sins and I believe He also rose again (They repeat). I trust in Jesus alone to save me (They repeat).

Say: Now you know how to be sure of Heaven when you die. If you sincerely meant that prayer God has forgiven you and saved you. When God looks at you now He sees the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Say: The next most important thing to do is to read Jesus’ words for yourself in the Bible. Get your Bible or download a Bible app on your phone and read either the first book of the New Testament Matthew or the fourth book John is a good place to start also.

How to mark the Romans Road verses in your Bible or New Testament

Here is the list you will follow on the Romans road…

Optional: 1 John 5:13

① Romans 3:10

② Romans 3:23

③ Romans 5:8

④ Romans 6:23

Optional: John 3:16

⑤ Romans 10:9

⑥ Romans 10:13

Mark all of these down in your New Testament so you won’t make any mistakes.

With this technique, you don’t have to memorize the scriptures… (that will come in time as you use the system.)

Take a colored pen or pencil and turn to the book of Romans.

Your first verse is Romans chapter 3 and verse 10.

Write a 1 next to the verse, then draw a line from the 1 to the verse: ① → 3:10

Now that you’ve marked it like shown above, move to the next verse.

The next verse is Romans chapter 3 and verse 23.

② → 3:23

Always indicate in the margin the next verse you will read and the page number it’s on.
