Peter vs. the Pope
By YBible
Catholics teach Peter was the first Pope. A quick comparison between Peter and the Papal office shows someone is lying…
The Pope
Popes don’t get married.
They historically allow men to bow down to them. Even going as far as having men kiss their feet which was practiced by the majority of popes from 600 to 1960.
They place themselves as the “vicar of Christ” having the authority of Christ on earth.
They claim to be able to speak “ex-cathedra” that is infallibly, in place of God.
Pope Innocent III: "He (the pope) judges all and is judged by no one."
Pope Leo XIII: "We hold upon this earth the place of God Almighty.”
Pope Boniface VIII: "We declare, assert, define and pronounce: To be subject to the Roman pontiff is to every human creature altogether necessary for salvation.”
Peter
Peter was married (Mt. 8:14; 1 Cor. 9:5). (cf. Mark 1:30; Luke 4:38)
And when Jesus was come into Peter's house, he saw his wife's mother laid, and sick of a fever. - Matthew 8:14 Have we not power to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas? - Corinthians 9:5 (Cephas is Peter)
Peter wouldn't allow a man to bow to him as popes do (Acts 10:25-26). Note: According to the Bible bowing down is worship.
And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man. - Acts 10:25-26
Jesus called Peter Satan (Mt. 16:23), just five verses after Jesus made Peter the rock of the church according to Catholics (Mt. 16:18).
But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. - Matthew 16:23
Peter condemned being lords over Gods heritage.
Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. - 1 Peter 5:3
Peter was judged by Paul whom “withstood” him and said he was “to be blamed”.
But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed. - Galatians 2:11
Peter called himself “an elder” (1 Peter 5:1). He doesn’t say he is a pope, there is no pope in the Bible. Elders are a defined role in the Church.
The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder - 1 Peter 5:1
The Bible teaches two church leadership positions, both contradict Catholicism:
A bishop (pastor) then must be blameless, the husband of one wife… - 1 Timothy 3:2 Let the deacons (elders) be the husbands of one wife… - 1 Timothy 3:12 Paul and Timotheus, the servants of Jesus Christ, to all the saints in Christ Jesus which are at Philippi, with the bishops and deacons: - Philippians 1:1
Catholicism: Peter was the first pope and rock of the church in Mt. 16:18.
Bible: The rock was Jesus and/or His statement: “...and that Rock was Christ." - 1 Cor. 10:4
New Testament the rock is Christ (1 Pet. 2:6-8; Rom. 9:33).
Old Testament the rock is Christ (Psa. 62:6; 2 Sam. 22:32; Duet. 32:4).
