For thou hast magnified thy word above

Is the God of the Old Testament immoral?
Skeptics attack the Bible by claiming the God of the Old Testament(OT) is immoral. Typically the Jews conquest of the land of Israel is cited. Yet this claim proves their willful ignorance.
The Conquest of Israel
Skeptics will cite verses like Dt. 7:1-5 where God guides the Jews to defeat nations near modern day Israel. However 400 years before God lead the Jews into Israel, He promises the land to Abraham and his descendants(Gen. 15:18) and says this to Abraham(the father of the Jews):
"..thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs(Egypt), and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years; But in the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites(one of the inhabitants of the promised land) is not yet full." - Gen. 15:13-16
God patiently waited until the iniquity of the inhabitants of the promised land reached a cutoff point, He then used the Jews and other means(Ex. 23:28), to execute His justice. We see throughout history God dealing with nations similarly(Psa. 75:6-7; Jb. 12:23; Pro. 14:34).
Note the Jews where not perfectly upright before God either: "Not for thy righteousness, or for the uprightness of thine heart, dost thou go to possess their land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee." - Dt. 9:4
Leviticus 18 states just some of their sins:
- Verses 6-16: All forms of incest & sex outside of marriage
- Verse 20: Adultery
- Verse 21: Child sacrifice(Dt. 12:29-31)
- Verse 22: Sodomy(Rom. 1:27) - Verse 23: Bestiality
- Verse 24-25: "Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: ..therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants."
The Jews sinned similarly and were judged by God(Psa. 106:34-45). God's covenant with them still remains(Lev. 26:44; Jer. 31:35-37; Rom. 11).
